2009-03-05
The 36th Maghreb Mouled Conference opened Wednesday (March 5th) in the Tunisian city of Kairouan, TAP reported. This year's event, part of celebrations for the feast of Mouled, focuses on the role of Kairouan in the foundation and spread of the Maliki rite. Religious Affairs Minister Boubaker El Akhzouri opened the forum by emphasising Kairouan in the history of Islam, the roles of Ali Ibn Ziad and Assad Ibn Fourat in spreading the Malekite rite and the contribution of Imam Sahnoun to the rite's consecration in Kairouan, and from there in the rest of North Africa and Andalusia.
