Bouteflika, 5 others to vie for Algerian presidency

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will face five challengers when he runs for re-election on April 9th, local press reported on Monday (March 2nd). Algeria's highest court ruled that among 13 applicants, 5 others fulfilled the eligibility requirements, Constitutional Council President Boualem Bessaih said Monday on national television: Louisa Hanoune, secretary general of the Labour Party; Moussa Touati, president of the Algerian National Front; Ali Fawzi Rebaine, leader of the nationalist Ahd 54 party; Belaid Mohand Oussaid, the leader of Party of Freedom and Justice; and Mohamed Djahid Younsi, secretary general of the Islamic el-Islah movement.
