Mauritanian junta leader General Ould Abdelaziz and deposed President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdellahi will have the opportunity to review a new proposal from Qatar, Libya, France and Spain aimed at ending the political crisis in Mauritania, ANI reported on Tuesday (February 10th). The proposal includes the establishment of a national, majority-led unity government, the simultaneous resignations of Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdellahi and General Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz before the June 6th presidential elections and the creation of an independent electoral commission to oversee all stages of the poll. Reactions to the proposal from Aziz and Abdellahi will be presented to EU, AU and other international officials at a February 20th meeting on Mauritania.
