International Sufi symposium set to open in Algeria
2008-12-11
The 5th edition of the international symposium on Sufi culture and music opening next week in Tizi-Ouzou will be the "largest of the regular international meetings, given the number of participating countries and the quality of university researchers who have a proven reputation in the Maghreb, the Arab and Muslim world," APS quoted organiser Zaïm Khenchelaoui as saying in Algiers on Wednesday (December 10th).
The December 14th-17th event hopes to "remind younger generations of the glorious past of their ancestors, the humanitarian principles of love, tolerance, brotherhood and solidarity broadcast by Islam and Sufism", Khenchelaoui said, noting that Sufism can immunise young people from sectarian divides.
