Mauritania sets unprecedented bail for ousted PM, other Air Mauritanie defendants

2008-12-08

A Mauritania court set bail for the Air Mauritanie liquidation case defendants, including former Prime Minister Yahya Ould Ahmed Waghef, at 100m ouguiyas (327,000 euros), Journal Tahalil reported on Sunday (December 7th). Another 16,000 euro bond was set for Ould Waghef in a separate case regarding misuse of government funds. Four defendants, including the ex-prime minister, were unable to post bail and remain jailed. The level of the bail in the airline liquidation case--the highest ever set by a Mauritanian court--was denounced as "excessive" by the anti-coup opposition, AFP and ANI reported.

If the bail in the Air Mauritania liquidation case comes to 100 million ouguiyas, then what should it come to for the bail of the putschist who liquidated democracy in Mauritania?
