African climate change conference opens in Algiers

An African conference on climate change opened on Wednesday (November 19th) in Algiers with the participation of regional environment ministers. Attendees reaffirmed the need for African countries to adopt a unified position on climate change before the upcoming international climate summits in Poland and Copenhagen. In his opening speech, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika said climate change caused by the greenhouse effect is the major challenge for the world in the first half of 21st century.
