Mauritanian opposition questions legitimacy of Air Mauritanie investigation
2008-11-17
Mauritania's anti-coup National Front for the Defence of Democracy (FNDD)) denounced Sunday (November 16th) the recent arrests of some of its members as part of the investigation into the Air Mauritanie liquidation, local press reported. Former Prime Minister Yahya Ould Ahmed Waghef was arrested last Thursday, along with former presidential spokesman Abdoulaye Mamadou Bâ and several former Air Mauritanie directors. FNDD claims the arrests aim to distract attention from the international sanctions threatening the ruling military junta.
