Morocco to launch third mobile phone operator
2008-10-31
A third wireless phone network licence will be offered for sale by Morocco's National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) to boost competition and bring down prices, Reuters quoted the agency as saying on Thursday (October 30th). There are currently two networks in the country: Maroc Telecom and Meditel, a joint venture of Spain's Telefonica and Portugal Telecom. The tender for the third licence will begin on November 3rd, and the sale operation is reportedly to be completed in the first quarter of 2009.
