Mauritania opposition urges AU to declare junta illegal

Mauritania's pro-democracy parties urged the African Union (AU) on Wednesday (October 8th) to press the ruling military junta to reinstate ousted president Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, AFP reported. The African Union "should act on the refusal of the junta to comply with its demands and declare the military leadership illegal," Front for the Defence of Democracy (FNDD) spokesman Mohamed Ould Moloud was quoted by AFP as saying.
