Moroccan authorities take action against Al Maghraoui
2008-09-26
Moroccan authorities closed 60 Qur'anic schools run by Cheikh Mohamed Al Maghraoui on Thursday (September 25th), as well as the Marrakesh headquarters of the cheikh's organisation. All of Al Maghraoui's websites were slated to be taken down on Friday. The Cheikh's controversial fatwa concerning underage marriage has solicited accusations from Muslim scholars, lawyers and the public that Al Maghraoui was effectively seeking to legalise paedophilia. He is currently the target of a government inquiry.

Peace and mercy of God be upon you. It is very clear that this campaign has political dimensions, foreign instructions, because the honour of underage girls is violated day and night in hotels and villas consecrated for this. But we never heard an association or lawyer condemning this even with a hint. As to the Fatwa, it is the opinion of most scholars.
