Algeria protests French police treatment of arrested diplomat
2008-08-26
Algerian state protocol chief Mohamed Ziane Hasseni was subjected to "humiliating treatment" by French police, AFP quoted Algerian Communications Minister Abderrachid Boukerzaza as alleging at a press conference on Monday (August 25th). Hasseni was recently arrested August 14th by French police on charges of complicity in the 1987 Paris murder of Algerian lawyer Ali Mecili, an aide to Algeria's Socialist Forces Front (FFS) leader Hocine Ait Ahmed. Boukerzaza said a group of lawyers will defend Hasseni in front of the French justice and that French authorities have been shown evidence of the Algerian diplomat's treatment.

The day we have honest men and women is the day that the Algerians and, in particular, the Algerian diplomats may leave their country without fear. Unfortunately, there are only cowards in this country, especially at the governmental level. Those who would defend us are already dead, God rest their souls. All who remain to govern this country are just bastards. This is shameful! –Thank you

I hope that France is not going to sell its soul and its sense of justice for a few barrels of oil like it did with the criminal Nazar.
