Algeria to mediate new meeting between Mali government, Tuareg rebels
2008-08-26
A new meeting between representatives of the Malian government and the May 23rd Tuareg Group of Kidal will be held in Algiers on Thursday (August 28th), Algerian mediator and Ambassador to Mali Abdelkrim Gheraïeb said on Monday (August 25th). The three-day meeting aims to accelerate implementation of the Algiers Accord, Gheraïeb said, adding that Algeria's mediation efforts have led to a truce agreement and the release of 24 prisoners by the rebels. El Khabar reported that one of the issues to be discussed is the location of the planned joint security unit. Rebels want it in Tizarwin, near the border with Algeria.
