Algerian security sources continue to battle terrorists

2008-08-24

Algerian security services have come under attack several times since two days of suicide bombings last week, local press reported on Saturday (August 23rd).

On Thursday, a terrorist group detonated a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol in Lakhdaria. No casualties were reported, but two civilians were injured in a separate explosion in Tébessa on Saturday when their tractor hit an explosive device buried on the road linking Douar Garnelkabech and Zhif.

Echourouk reports that army troops besieged an 11-member terror group on Friday in the mountains of Bouguentas. El Watan said another terrorist was killed the same day near Jijel. Security forces also say they have arrested a man who had provided logistics to terrorists planning to attack Sonelgaz facilities in Jijel provence.

In related news, Echourouk reports that Canadian company SNC Lavallin, which lost 12 workers in the double attack in Bouira, has vowed to remain in Algeria despite the terrorists' threats.
