2008-07-27

Morocco's National Drinking Water Office (ONEP) has planned investment projects worth $615m in 2008, compared to $409m in 2007, MAP quoted Amina Benkhadra, Minister of Energy, Mines, Water, and the Environment as saying on Friday (July 25th). Benkhadra stressed the desalination of seawater as an alternative to face drought, in addition to adopting a national water policy.

Again??? I wonder where the Moroccan leaders are going to find all that money! Every day (or just about every day) they report the amounts for enormous investments, coming to several million if not billions. In every city, there are bridges, homes, schools, subdivisions and so on. Thus, there investments are often only slightly productive or not at all productive when it comes to wealth— they are neither industrial nor industrialising. Beware, of the fall of the dollar: it makes things easy, but it could also bring about the dissolution of the Moroccan dirham’s parity, mortgaging the future of our generations to come and even the current ones.

No, the Moroccan officials do not have all this money because their financial needs are enormous and far beyond the sum total of national revenue. But, there is a plethora of techniques: inflations, loans, co-financing, partnerships and so on, permitting the financial machine to function. Water is also necessary for life, and it would be neglectful to not prepare for all future needs. What is essential is that we do not suffer from water shortages like Algeria. We do not have oil, but we will not suffer from shortage, all things the same.

I am proud that my country is developing and that all these countries are giving us loans to improve the lives of our inhabitants. I am ready to contribute to this, as I am proud of my country. In my opinion, it is the most beautiful in the world. PS- I work for a French company that builds factories, boilers, plumbing and does industrial maintenance. This company preserves the environment in the realm of industry. Would it be possible to find out or to get information about the investment inquiries in Morocco. –Thank you
