Algerian suicide bomber reportedly "new recruit" to Droukdel's group

2008-07-24

The motorcyclist who carried out the suicide attack in Lakhdaria on Wednesday (July 23rd) was a 30-year-old "new recruit" to Abdelmalek Droukdel's terrorist group, unidentified Algerian security sources reportedly confirmed to Echorouk. Thirteen people were injured when the bomber drove into an army truck leading a convoy out of the barracks in Bouira province, 120 km east of Algiers. According to Algerian experts, security controls imposed on the movement of cars and the use of protective vehicular barriers have forced Droudkel's suicide bombers to access their targets either on foot or, as in this case, by motorbike. This is the second suicide bombing in a year to target the same army barracks. On July 11th, 2007, 10 soldiers were killed and 30 injured when a terrorist drove a truck filled with explosives into the army post.
