Algerian, US authorities discuss judicial co-operation treaty

Algeria's Ministry of Justice, the US Department of Justice and representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) completed the second round of negotiations on a Treaty on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters last week in Washington, local press quotes the Justice Ministry as saying on Saturday (July 19th). A training programme for Algerian magistrates in the field of trans-national organised crime and mutual legal assistance was also discussed during the visit of the Algerian delegation. As part of the mutual assistance in criminal matters, the FBI recently opened an office in Algiers to assist Algerian security officers with counter-terrorism efforts, Echorouk reported July 19th.
