Qatar Petroleum considers Tunisian oil refinery construction
2008-06-20
State-owned Qatar Petroleum is in the final stage of a feasibility study on building an oil refinery in Tunisia, Energy Minister Afif Chelbi was quoted as saying on Thursday (June 19th). The consortium will build, own, manage and run the refinery in the coastal town of Skhira, 340km from the capital. Boosting refining capacity is in line with Tunisia's plans to expand gas and oil exploration activity in order to replenish diminishing oil and gas reserves, reduce fuel imports and meet demand growth.
