The self-identified Mauritanian leader of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, Al Khadim Oueld Slimane, reportedly told his country’s security authorities that he trained at four different times at GSPC bases in Algeria, Echourouk reported on Thursday (June 19th). He also claimed that Mokhtar Belmokhtar personally named him to lead Mauritania's al-Qaeda cell and that he was behind the terrorist attack against the Israeli embassy in Nouakchott.
