Moroccan court commutes murderer's death sentence

The Salé Appeals Court commuted the death sentence of Amin Mrini, a Dutchman of Moroccan origin, on Wednesday (February 13th), MAP reported. Mrini was sentenced to death last June for the 2005 murder of a Dutch citizen in Utrecht. Prior to his appeal, seven NGOs, including the Moroccan chapter of the World Coalition against the Death Penalty urged the court to commute Mrini's death sentence. Morocco has not carried out an execution since 1994.
