Moroccans plan Amazigh-Jewish association

2007-07-17

A group of Amazigh workers in the Souss region of Morocco are planning to set up the Souss al-Aalema Association for Amazigh-Jewish Friendship on July 20th in Agadir. Those behind the idea say they "want to create bridges between Amazigh Jews across the different countries and their Amazigh brothers and sisters in Morocco". The plans have stirred up debate among two associations – the Moroccan Collective for the Support of the Iraqi and Palestinian Peoples and the Association for the Support of the Palestinian People who, alongside left-wing and even some pro-Amazigh groups, have called for a boycott of the planned association's activities.

Why is it that people are always against the possibility of living together with the Jews?

abu3a9l Posted 2007-12-04

Yes, Manzolini, this point is very interesting. It is necessary that our understanding and self-identification remain far off from hatred and terror. But, I think that it is not that far off for everyone.

It's surprising that members of these organisations ignore the cohabitation of Jews and Amazigh for over 2000 years and condemn something which already exists.

YOUBA Posted 2008-03-14

Greetings Ameghnas. Why are you surprised to see an Amazigh Jewish association and not surprised at Arab Jewish states and killing Islamic countries in favour of the Jews? You blame the visit of Amazighs to the Jews and you didn’t blame the Arabs' visit and their forging of ties with the Jews. Are you forbidding the Amazighs that which you allow the Arabs to do? This is certainly sheer racism and unjust intervention in the affairs of others. Amazighs live in their country and they can do what they want.

Greetings to you. Relationships with anyone causes no problem. We Amazigh people cohabit with any people. We are very open people. The problem is with those who refuse the relationships openly and keep them secret.

ابن الوادي Posted 2008-08-19

Why this cajole? Did the Jews coax you? You have lived with the Jews, this is true. However, they have been isolated; they didn’t want to stain their blood with the Berber blood. As regards Arab, they have married you, and you have married them. I am Amazigh but my culture is Arab. All the Amazigh have an Arab culture and don’t have anything in common with the Jews. Why should the initiative come from you and not from the Jews? You are really base and Arabs are always dignified.

Mammis n'Oumghar Posted 2008-12-17

Imazighen ought to be free (hence the name!!!) to associate with anyone they want, be it the devil, if so they choose. Arabs and Jews should be free to do the same. To you Ibn Al Wadi, you may not realize it yet but Arabs did not exactely do us a favor by "marrying us," as you put it. This "marriage" story did not end all that well, did it? Millions of Imazighen are less than enchanted with the status quo and are seeking basic human rights such as the right to have their language recognized and the right to give their new-borns Amazigh names; need I say more?
