Portuguese Prime Minister expected in Morocco

2007-04-15

Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates will arrive in Morocco on Monday (April 16th) for a two-day visit. He will head a delegation consisting of seven cabinet members as well as representatives of 50 companies. The delegation will attend the ninth session of the high level Morocco-Portugal meeting, which will promote bilateral co-operation and economic partnership in various sectors. According to MAP, Morocco's government hopes to attract more Portuguese companies to strategic fields, such as infrastructure, social housing, telecommunications, and small- and medium-sized enterprises. Bilateral trade recorded a 20% growth in 2006 in comparison with 2005, official figures show. Moroccan imports from Portugal rose to 2.5 billion dirhams, while exports reached 1.9 billion dirhams.
