Maroc Telecom reports $2.67 billion turnover in 2006

Maroc Telecom's turnover last year reached more than $2.67 billion, up 10% from 2005 figures, CEO Abdeslam Ahizoune announced late last week. The net profit of the company increased by 16% to $79.61 million. The number of mobile subscribers rose by 30% to 11.3 million people, while internet users grew to 400,000, including 348,000 DSL clients. The company has invested $5.2 billion, or 16% of its turnover, in its expansion. At the end of 2006, Maroc Telecom acquired 51% of Gabon Telecom for $80 million and 51% of ONATEL of Burkina Faso for $289 million. It has also owned 54% of Mauritanian operator Mauritel since 2001.
