Mauritania, Sudan to re-establish diplomatic relations
2006-08-15
The re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Mauritania and Sudan was announced Monday (14 August) during a visit by Sudanese Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Kerti to Nouakchott.
"This decision comes in a new era of economic co-operation marked by the entrance of Sudanese businesses into Mauritania to invest in this country," Kerti said. Sudan closed its embassy in Nouakchott in 1994 after the arrest of two Sudanese diplomats working for organisations accused by the previous government of financing Islamic extremists. (AMI)
