Morocco repatriates 104 illegal immigrants
2006-08-15
Morocco repatriated 104 sub-Saharan would-be immigrants to Gambia and Senegal on Monday (14 August) via plane from the airport in Laayoune. The immigrants were arrested in several operations and detained in a reception centre. Another 24 immigrants will be repatriated in the next few days.
Around 400 immigrants were arrested in the province of Laayoune during the first six months of this year, while trying to reach the Canary Islands from Mauritania and Western Sahara after the tightening of security measures in Ceuta and Melilla. (MAP)
