UNICEF announces $8m programme to promote children's rights in Algeria
2006-05-30
A five-year programme between Algeria and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) for the promotion of children rights will be launched by 2007, Raymond Janssens, UNICEF representative in Algiers, said on Monday (29 May). UNICEF will provide technical assistance for the programme with an $8m donation. Janssens voiced hope that by 2011, all Algerian children and women will enjoy full access to education and high-quality health services, and that the country will achieve its objective of reducing the death rate of children under the age of five, as well as the maternal death rate by 25 per cent.
