US Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to visit Algeria in May to talk with officials about strategic co-operation between the United States and Maghreb countries in the anti-terror war and economics. According to El-Khabar, the United States is seeking access to Algeria's oil production, stemming from the volatile situation in the Middle East and following President George W. Bush's statement in January that the United States would reduce its dependence on Middle Eastern oil in the coming two decades. (El Kahabar, Al Jazeera, AFP)
