Morocco recently subscribed to the IMF's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS), an IMF press release revealed Thursday (22 December). According to Robert Edwards, director of the IMF Statistics Department, Morocco's subscription represents a strong commitment to transparency and is a significant achievement in implementing internationally-accepted good practices in statistics.
The SDDS, established in March 1996, is intended to improve the timeliness, quality, and periodicity of economic and financial statistical data provided to the public. Subscription to the SDDS is generally expected to enhance the availability of comprehensive and timely statistics, thereby contributing to the pursuit of sound macroeconomic policies and the improved functioning of financial markets, Edwards said.
