Per cent of Women in Tunisian Universities to Increase by 2006

Young women will constitute about 60 per cent of the Tunisian university population by 2006, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali said last week. Young women currently constitute 56 per cent of the 292,000 students at the country's 161 public and private colleges and universities. At present, women account for 37.4 per cent of the country's civil service sector, 24 per cent of the judiciary, 22 per cent of lawyers, 37.9 per cent of the medical profession, and 70 per cent of the pharmaceutical profession.
