Mobile operator Algeria Telecom Mobile recently announced the launch of its Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) pilot network, which is constructed by Huawei Technologies. The network covers many areas in Algiers, including the Office of President Bouteflika, the headquarters of Algeria Telecom Mobile and the International Exhibition Centre. Both basic mobile services and multimedia services -- including voice, video phone and SMS -- as well as MMS, streaming and pocket television are covered by the UMTS pilot network. The system is the first 3G network in Algeria. (Interfax)
