High Speed Internet Access Booms in Tunisia
2004-12-13
Internet service providers received more than 2,700 requests
Tunisian Internet access shows positive growth after a 24 November initiative to reduce ADSL high speed Internet rates to 50 dinars. Around 1,300 high speed lines have become operational since the initiative launched last month. According to Tunisie Telecom, Internet service providers received more than 2,700 requests because of the offer. Tunisian officials believe significant educational value can be realized in making Internet connectivity more widespread, cheaper, faster and convenient. The next move, according to official reports, is to initiate an e-government system similar to that found in Arab gulf countries. (albawaba.com)
