Several decisions were recently adopted in Tunisia towards promoting new information technologies. The new measures aim to reduce the cost of telephone service, promoting broadband Internet connections and assisting non-governmental organisations and businesses involved in new information technologies.

The steps include reducing home telephone subscription fees from 60 to 20 dinars and abolishing subscription fees for any second telephone line. Telephone subscription fees will be abolished by 2009.
