Tunisian Flower Entrepreneurs Need Export Markets
2004-11-29
A Tunisian Internet portal popular with young entrepreneurs, webmanagercenter.com, bemoans the lack of export earnings for Tunisia's flower industry. The site said the sector has growth potential but exporters have difficulty accessing international markets due to poor local organisation.
Compounding this issue is Tunisia's high marriage rate. The Internet portal argues that production for export cannot be guaranteed for next year due to flower demand for local wedding ceremonies. Although Tunisia has an arrangement with Belgium and Holland to develop flower industry technologies, industry insiders say the agreement lacks implementation. (albawaba.com)
