Three operators now aggressively compete for market share
With the end of the national mobile phone monopoly last year, the Algerian domestic phone market has experienced rapid growth and increased competition. Three operators now aggressively compete for market share. In September, Kuwaiti phone giant Wataniya launched its Nedjma project which offers one second billing, different tariff rates and specials deals for phoning relatives in France.
The Nedjma project caused Wataniya's two rivals, Egyptian Orascom, and the Algerian Telecom operator, Mobilis, to reduce prices and offer special tariff rates. In some cases, free phones are offered to entice customers. (menareport.com)
