Algeria's Sonatrach and Sonelgaz Excluded From Privatisation Plans

Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia recently announced that the state-owned Sonatrach and Sonelgaz energy giants are not among the 1,200 companies slated for privatisation. The privatisation of Algeria's state-owned industries is moving ahead as the country negotiates to join the WTO. Algerian officials have said they are opening state-controlled industries to reduce dependence on the oil sector and unemployment. (Oil and Gas Journal)
