During a visit to the Algerian coastal city of Tipaza on Saturday (6 November), the head of Algeria's fishing department, Ismail Mimoun, announced the allocation of six fishing boats and four trawlers worth more than $4.7m to fishermen. Mimoun's department is financing 40 per cent of the amount, the Agriculture and Rural Development Bank 50 per cent, while fishermen shoulder 10 per cent.

The new vessels are expected to create 50 new jobs and lead to 750 annual tonnes of increased production. At the end of his visit, Mimoun said his department is now "in the investments promotion phase of the sector" to develop deep sea fishing. (APS)
