Algerian Trade Unions to Participate in 2005 Privatisation
2004-11-05
On Thursday (4 November) the Algerian Central Union granted a two-month time limit to national federations and trade unions to "present definite and objective proposals" about their roles in the government privatisation programme for 2005. Sidi Said, the general-secretary of the General Union of Algerian Workers, said, "We are not against reforms, but they should not be carried out at the expense of the workers." Said pointed out there should be debate and consensus on the government's reforms. (El Khabar)
