A recent report by EMC Corporation, an information storage systems, software, networks and services group, estimated the total number of the mobile phone users in the Middle East and North Africa region at 51.9 million by the end of 2004. EMC attributed this large number to growing demand for mobile phone services in North Africa, mainly in Tunisia and Algeria. EMC estimated the total number of mobile phone users in North Africa at 38.3 million users by the end of 2003. According to Al-Yaum newspaper, demand for mobile phone services in the region grew by 40 per cent last year compared with the previous year. (menareport.com)
