Algeria to Institute Automatic Payment System

Algeria received strong criticism of its banking sector this week after detailed discussions with an IMF team and renewed negotiations with the EU. Abderrahmane Benkhalfa, secretary general of the Algerian Banking and Financial Institutions Association, recently announced Algeria is due to institute an automatic payment system by 2006. The system is part of a wider programme bringing Algerian banking technology up to international standards. (albawaba)
