Automobile Imports on the Rise in Algeria

2004-10-26

Algeria imported 1 billion euro worth of new vehicles -- about 150,000 cars -- over the first nine months of 2004. According to Algerian customs statistics, this represents a dramatic increase worth almost 100 billion Algerian dinars compared to 76 billion dinars for the same period in 2003. Over 90,000 cars were imported for commercial use and 59,000 for private use. For the first time, the French manufacturer Renault has overtaken Peugeot in the market with 19,755 imports as opposed to 18,766 for Peugeot. Although Japan’s Toyota was in third place, it logged a 120 per cent increase for the same period over the previous year. (menareport.com)
