New Private Company to Foster Algerian Maritime Transport

According to shipping experts, the new company will increase national maritime transport capacities and reduce Algerian freight costs

[AFP]

Algerian Finance Minister Abdellatif Benachenhou announced on Sunday (24 October) that the Algerian merchant fleet would soon be buttressed with the establishment of a private transport company. The announcement was made during a meeting organised by the Club Excellence Management, a forum that brings together Algerian managers. According to shipping experts, the new company will increase national maritime transport capacities and reduce Algerian freight costs, the highest in the Mediterranean. Currently, the only local maritime company in Algeria is the National Navigation Company, which transports only 10 per cent of the total volume of Algerian imports. (APS)
