The EU has released a 79m-euro aid package to Morocco for implementing a public sector reform programme, according to official sources. This will bring the total EU involvement in Morocco to almost 600m euros for the period 2000-2004. In Rabat on Friday (22 October), Moroccan Minister for Finance and Privatisation Fathallah Oualalou met with the chief of the EU delegation to Morocco, Sean Doyle, and said his country planned to speed up the privatisation effort in order to make Morocco more attractive to foreign investors. Morocco is also benefiting from the World Bank's MEDA II (2000-2006) programme, which has a budget of 1.125 billion euros, intended for the southern Mediterranean region. (Albawaba.com)
