Loss to Software Firms in Algeria Totals $58m

Internationally, piracy is thought to cost software companies $30 billion each year
Nadia Ben Bahtane, the spokesperson of the North African Business Software Alliance (BSA), has acknowledged that software companies are losing as much as $58m annually due to piracy in Algeria. Bahtane's comments came in response to an international study which found that piracy levels in the country have reached 84 per cent. Facing international pressure, the National Algerian Office of Author Rights and the BSA signed a memorandum of understanding, calling for mutual collaboration in fighting piracy. Internationally, piracy is thought to cost software companies $30 billion each year. (www.menareport.com)
