Initial Signs of Privatisation in Morocco Agriculture Sector
2004-10-21
The campaign began 11 October and is continuing until 2 November
Twenty-four agricultural co-operatives and milk distribution centres in Morocco are now midway through a detailed audit in the town of El Jadida, spearheaded by the Office of Development and Co-operation. The campaign began 11 October and is continuing until 2 November. Amid claims of inefficiency, the audit is intended to check management and production techniques and to formulate recommendations to improve the state of the agricultural and dairy sector in the region.
In a separate development, Moroccan Agriculture Minister Mohand Laenser announced that private firms are being allowed for the first time to form partnerships with the state in the agricultural sector. The sector is considered crucial to relieving poverty and creating more jobs. (menareport.com)
