Tunisian Stamp to Commemorate Universal Declaration of Human Rights
2004-12-12
The Tunisian postal service announced on Friday (10 December) that a commemorative stamp for the 56th anniversary for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be issued. The country's press agency revealed that the stamp is intended to represent a map of Tunisia incorporated with a symbol representing justice and equality for all elements of society and the efforts that have been expended on protecting and guaranteeing human rights. The issue of human rights has been especially controversial in Tunisia since the elections when opposition figures claim they were harassed by police, with some alleging they were beaten.
