Star Academy Maghreb auditions start
2006-08-15
Aspiring young singers are auditioning for the 14 coveted spots to sing before millions of television viewers on "Star Academy Maghreb", which begins airing in October.

Around 5,000 young Tunisians, 4,000 Moroccans and a similar number of Algerians have already auditioned for the first "Star Academy Maghreb". Auditions also will be held for Libyans and Maghreb residents of France in the coming days.
The 14 participants selected will move in late October to a luxurious villa in Tunis, where their home lives will be filmed daily. During this time, they will compete to win recording contracts and a huge cash prize.
Miriam Bazazi a communications officer for "Star Academy Maghreb", told reporters, "This idea has appealed to us for years. But what made us more determined to realise it has been the unfairness we felt towards Arab Maghreb participants in similar versions (of Star Academy) in Lebanon and France, where no Maghreb contestants won."
After the auditions, 30 participants from each country will be selected. They will be whittled to a group of 14, who will perform before a panel of professional artists and musicians from the Maghreb, who will eventually crown the winner.
Show organisers told Magharebia this "Star Academy" would differ from those of other countries because it will reflect local tastes. They also expressed hope that female contestants will be judged by their talents rather than their appearance.
Appearance likely will be a less important variable, as Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika reportedly intervened last year to stop the transmission of remaining episodes of "Star Academy" from Lebanon because of the supposed immodest dress of female contestants.
Another Maghreb issue with the Lebanese "Star Academy" arose when a Saudi defeated a Tunisian in the final. Tunisians questioned the voting fairness and welcomed their compatriot home as a hero at Carthage Airport.

zazou Posted 2006-09-15
Star Academy Maghreb is a genial idea because the people from the Maghreb don't have a chance in the Lebanese Star Academy, despite being the real stars, especially the Tunisians and the progress they made, including Baha or Ahmad or Amani or Chayma. So thank you to those behind this project.
ايمن Posted 2006-09-27
Hello, peace be upon you. I am one of the participants of Star Academy Maghreb who qualified for the final stage that determines the finalists taking part in the filming of the programme. I signed the contract, but up until today, they haven't called me. I don't if they've done the eliminations by camera, something that wasn't mentioned in the contract, or not real. This surprised me, because one of the participants told me they called him and and he went to Tunis along with five other applicants. There were just 10 of us applicants who were selected. Were half of them eliminated or have the finals not taken place yet?I don't know, and there is no one who can tell me what's going on. Best wishes God willing.

I cannot wait to watch Star Academy Maghreb. I wholeheartedly wish that however is truely qualified become the new Star of the Maghreb. Thank you
وليد Posted 2006-10-02
Thank you very much for these measures because my family is a big fan of this program. Thank you!
taher Posted 2006-10-20
I enjoy the Star Academy, but Algerians are not very lucky; the most striking example could be rym ghazali. She has a great voice and is very nice, but....
MAROKIAAAAA Posted 2006-10-30
The nicest voices belong to Maghrebis, mostly Moroccans in France, such as SOFIA SAIDI. She sings and dances really good, as does HODA. But racism is always here to make us feel desperate, be it in France or Lebanon, for instance Chaimae, and Hanae and Ahmed Cherif mm bahae, too much.
مراصيع الغرام Posted 2006-10-31
All the best for All Moroccans!...I wish to know whether is shal be aired in Moroccan TV or any other channnel!
tranzabadan Posted 2006-11-03
What are you talking about? The launching was normally due end of October. Today is November 3, and we haven’t seen anything yet. Another misplaced appointment… Never believe Maghrebis, they never stick to their promises.
fatima zahra Posted 2006-11-05
My name is Fatima Azzahra sending you greetings from Morocco!

abdulla Posted 2006-11-15
When is the "Star Academy Maghreb" gonna start? Today is November 15 and we didn't see it airing on Nessma tv. Can anyone tell me about this issue? I am from Bahrain and I love Tunisia, Morocco and Algiers.

Redouane de maroc Posted 2006-11-22
Hi, my name is Redouane, i am from Morocco.. I took part in Star Academy Maghreb, went through the selection process in Casablanca, we were more than 1,000 people there. I could make it to the following step, and was among the 45 people out of 1,000.. But the organization was really crap.. The jury was not up to it... I also took part in Studio 2M in Morocco, it was pretty well organized in Casa, and although I could not make it to the second prime stage, I was among the 45 selected out of 2,000 (NAJAT eliminated me, she was with me in this group).. As to the Star Ac’ Maghreb, I heard it would be cancelled, too many thieves, as usual.. I wish you all good luck.. I currently record my own tracks alone.. See you soon..
moufida Posted 2006-11-25

Peace be upon you. I am from Tunisia! I am astonished to hear such news for the first time: Maghreb Star Academy. I wish it is true because we are always being treated unfairly while we have the best voices in the region. I hope they give a chance to the Maghreb youth because they are the ones who suffer discrimination most in the Arab world and Europe as well despite the fact that we are more educated and speak most Arab and western languages. Thank you this is my opinion.
lorina Posted 2006-12-24
This is going to help me achieve my dream. Thanks. Whoever can help with information please do because it will be a disaster for me if I do not take part in this show!

I went to Tunisia for the final casting, but failed. Not a big deal. I know the others. There will be a nice Moroccan voice. She is a friend of mine. Vote for her. Thanks.

kawtar Posted 2007-02-17
Hello! My name is Kawtar from Morocco. Star Academy Maghreb is good but there is a considerable interest to the Tunisians despite their snobishness and arrogance in believing that they are the best on the planet. Even so Moroccans are the best!

In fact I'm a fan of Star Academy, I love the program so much and will go on watching Star Academy maghreb, but there is just one small problem. It's language. If only they don't speak French so that we can understand and try to learn the Maghreb dialect, if only they speak more slowly. Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and all the Gulf would follow the program only if they understand what's said. Please try to find a solution. Many thanks. That's my opinion so that everyone can watch...

حسسين فرحات Posted 2007-02-27
The idea of such talent show is good because it promotes the talents in the Arab world. I was a contestant in both the Maghreb and Lebanese version but was unsuccessful though I believe I have a good voice but I also believe that it is a matter of luck. For the Maghreb version, I see that they are marginalizing the Libyans even though it includes all countries: Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya, the channel seems not to be showing Libyan numbers and SMS too. I dont know the reason and want to know a convincing one. Good luck to the show!
مريم Posted 2007-02-28
I can't wait to see this show which I wish to be a success so that Algerian, including me, are able to watch it and so that Algeria is not compelled to shut it out!

I think waiting until the Lebanese version end date will have positive effects in attracting the largest audience possible. Thanks! so long!

I was shocked when I saw part of the programme, I was thinking that the Arab Maghreb Star Academy will be better or on the same level as Lebanon. How can I or anyone else vote for our favourite participant when we don't know the level of the students? Everytime I switch on I find music, I want to see the students studying so that I can tell their real level. I don't want to be hard on anyone. We are looking for a real star who will take Maghreb music to the top.

Maghreb people proved once more that they have voices despite everything- the earth which has born Samira, Saber, Warda and Aymane is capable of producing more and more. The testimony of Rabia El Khouli in Studio 2M or super star is good proof, as he said that when you walk in the streets of Tunisia and Morocco, you discover voices from the public. These Maghreb youth have just to confirm that they're the best morally and be to the expected level far from the pettiness of the East Star Academy.

It's quite natural that the Lebanese channel competes with Nesma channel as the LBC has commercial dimensions and important income namely from the Maghreb states, but everyone has his own freedom. And even if the Karoui group, who manages the Nesma channel and Maghreb star academy, has commercial objectives, but it's well-known that it's trying to present the Maghreb culture - customs - traditions- songs- dialects...What's wrong with that, on the contrary it's a great idea so that all the Arab world knows our culture like what the Egyptians,Lebanese and Gulf countries did in a good way even if their dialect is difficult but the viewers interacted with them. We have young talents and powers but they didn't have an opportunity to show that, and the ancient Maghreb heritage is very rich with valuable things but unfortunately they were hidden or their appearance was very very rare...

Hi young people, you're all brilliant- especially Ahmed Amel, nice atmosphere in the academy I vote for him and tell him keep up in this level all the people of Sabha, the people of Marzak in the south are with you. Beware of Hajar, she's a nice voice and deserves to be a star.

The slogan of Nesma channel and Star Academy program is not Eastern nor Western but Maghreb???? But I think it's French, as they don't speak Arabic and don't sing in other Arabic dialects- just French???

First of all thank you for the program. Secondly, the managing body of the academy should ban speaking in any other language but Arabic between the students, and urge the teachers to speak only Arabic, because it's really a shame and Libyan students understand nothing and are very upset about that as well as the Libyan media, the best proof is the level of Libyan students which is deteriorating on the practical level- please take that into consideration. Salam Alaikoum, to all Maghreb people wherever they are, my thanks to the staff of Nesma channel. Here in Morocco we're very impressed by Maghreb star academy as it's one thousand times better than star academy Lebanon, even if I saw the latter many times, it doesn't give any impression of belonging to the Arab culture as it's degraded morally this star, teaches nastiness instead of teaching young people singing...congratulations to Maghreb people for this star. They taught a lesson to easterners and Gulf people in morals...And now easterners, and Gulf people who is the best, you or us...good luck to all participants...I like Ahmed so much, he's very amusing, Hajar, Abdelhamid, Kawtar, Farah, Badrou, Farid and Jamal and please God always forward Jamal

kalamity Posted 2007-04-13
My answer to my brother Mostachar from Libya. You have proved that you're the racist in your thoughts when you have excluded Libya from the countries of the Arab Maghreb, how do you say that you don't belong to us, and I correct what you said, we're not Berbers because the word berber means wild, but in the Maghreb Arab there are Amazigh people as well as black people and Moors who came from Andalusia, and there are Arabs Arabs Arabs and Libya isn't the only Arabic and Arabs aren't the only population of Libya as there are the other components. We're proud of this composition. Concerning the French culture, the students don't only sing in French but also in Spanish and English, why don't the Libyans sing in Italian which is a very nice artistic language, it's even the language of art. And I think that Ahmed the Libyan with his nice sweet voice will be even greater if he sings in that language, why don't you be like him in his lightheartedness, tolerance and attempt to integration. We applaud this in him and like him as a Maghreb contestant and why do you take yourself away, and with whom are you, you're neither with the East nor with the West or are you supporting the idea of be different in order to be known and you support

Thanks so much for publishing my letter literally and without change and this proves the impartiality of the program and its credibility unlike what we witnessed from the program which is similar to it. Many thanks and respects to you and we'll not forget this credibility and we'll mention it in the pages of our newspaper the most famous in Libya "Jaridat Al Jamahiriya". On the other hand, I hope to be surprised by taking my comment into consideration and issuing a decision banning everyone in the house to speak any other language but Arabic. Not because of a backward or primitive background but because of my belief in the 'arabness' of this program and nothing more, on the other side to enhance harmony between its parts from all the Maghreb people. With all my greetings. Salam Alaikoum. Soulaiman Kachout, reporter, Jaridat Al Jamahiriya, artistic file.

My reply to the brother Mostachar from Libya, it's understood that he's from the east of Libya, I want to confirm that the Amazigh Berber element are the original population of Libya from Barka to the Tunisian borders. Concernening the Arabic element, whom he belongs proudly to and preserving its purity, I say Libya hasn't know the Arabic elemnt until the end of the tenth century during the Fatimide dynasty through the successive migrations of the tribes of Beni Hilal and Beni Selim. As to barbarism and brutality, I want you to review well the Libyan history and see who were described by by barbarism Arabs or Amazighs, who had destroyed the immortal Amazigh civilizations Arabs or Amazighs, who has welcomed Islam without killing or fighting with opened arms welcoming Arabs or Amazighs, who was the first and main cause for the conquest of Africa, its north and Andalusia Arabs or Amazighs, for all this I want you to talk just for yourself and don't include Libya with you again. Don't forget that Libya is an official and major member of the Union of Arab Maghreb founded by the brother Libya, and it's Libya that is chairing the union presently. By God stop this ....talk my apologies to the dear readers....A Maghreb Amazigh Libyan

سيف - ليبيا Posted 2007-04-23
A right idea but what is evident to us is that the Arab East is controlling and partial to the news of the Arab East on the detriment of the sons of the Arab Maghreb even the songs have become boring and cloned a thousand times, we no longer like them as they are numerous and weak. It’s high time for all Maghreb products, we know well that the songs of the East are known world-wide and the artists of the Arab Maghreb have achieved world fame like the Libyan artist Ahmed Fekroune, the Algerian atist Cheb Khaled and many others, while there isn’t a single artist from the east who reached the success of Maghreb artists, take another example the Egyptian artist Amr Diab he gained fame with a Libyan song, it was a Libyan artist who was behind him his name was mentioned by our brother Kalamity. My brother here in Libya we have Amazigh people and we're very proud of them, they're Libyans like us and we've no discrimanation, we're their people and they're our people...You've gone too far. You don't know Libya you should come and visit then you can give your opinion, and your talk that she's neither from the East nor from the West really made laugh, may God forgive you, this is a weak thought, don't forget that Libya is the initiator of this Union, but don't get angry in spite of the truth, concerning the voices which I liked without compliments are Yousra and Hajar...and especially Hajar, really, really, this voice deserves esteem, and we tell you Hajour we're with you in Libya inchallah we'll vote for you and love you so much, God help you, and of course we won't forget our fellow citizens Khairi and Ahmed, last time I burnt a card for Khairi and if necessary I'll burn ten cards next time, but this isn't discrimination, it's my right to vote for the one I chose and don't forget that Khairi hasn't yet found a song that rhymes with his voice, I really like the young man Farid, he's great and the way he sings is very sweet and quite, please God ake him succeed, we don;t forget Dounia even if she went out and today she returned, we tell her great Dounia, the best thing is your great soul and you're an artist, whether you go out or not you shoud know that you've reached our hearts and that's the most important....Yes that's true when we hear a Libya song with a voice mastering the song we'll vote for him and up to now the only ones who sing Libyan songs in a good way are Ahmed, Hajar and Khairi, that's true, don't forget that social relations are very important in the survival of the students and in this game. I like Firas this candid young man, be careful, he is candid and the artist should be candid...We in Libya are pleased with this idea which gathers us with the nice Arab Maghreb and please get rid of complexes, salam
هالة ونادرة وهاجر Posted 2007-04-24

In the name of God, I liked this Maghreb Star academy, and it is an opportunity for the talented, Firas get out what's inside you, live with the song as if it were a story and part of your life, you can succeed because you're an artist, Kawtar the daughter of my country, you have a special voice power, exploit it and you'll succeed, and forget about friendships you're supposed to be all friends, Hajar I tell you that you have a great voice, and to Farah you're nice when singing in Arabic and to Yousra, you're an artist and have important powers, you're in the house to fulfill your dreams so don't mind details and Dounia the fine feeling your nice and sweet voice, inchallah you will achieve starhood.

I don’t know why you don’t respect the game’s rules. How can we respect you then? I am against Yosra and Donia returning. Why do you want them to come back to Star Academy? Isn’t the jury honorable enough? If they weren’t, they would not have made Yosra leave for making a mistake. That’s why I am asking the jury to think a bit before they come to a decision. As for Donia, I don’t think that the audience isn’t going to want her back. It seems to me there is something weird going on. The vote is not transparent.

Salam alaikoum, I'm a young woman from Morocco, I hoped that the Maghreb star academy would be impartial and very good, but unfortunately, it's far from impartiality, do you know what are the best voices, it's the voice of Jamaleddine, they made him go out unwillingly, so without lying to ourselves, the truth is that Dounia has no voice at all, so how can we compare the fine voice to the weak voice, by God that's unfair, Faten and Kaoutar have voices much better than the voice of Dounia and the voice of Farah, and today they leave the Dar, by God that's unfair. Mrs Khaidja we ask you to consider and reconsider, and bring back Jamaleddine and make him one of the first, because of course he deserves that, but his right was grabbed in front of hid eyes, By God that's unfair Firas what you did to Jamal the kind, why this hatred which isn't present in Lebanon star academy and is present in you, why are you like that, no one in the top five can be a nominee until we see that here, that's unfair, it was Jamal for whom I was watching the star, now that's over, I've nothing to do with that because it's a program full of cheating and hatred, please if anyone has the cell phone number give it to me, thanks

ناصر عون الله/ درج _ ليبيا Posted 2007-05-22
Maghreb star academy succeeded where politics have failed, Arab Maghreb star academy is a good move that makes us closer in opnions and send a message to our government saying that it's high time to stir life in the body of the Arab Maghreb and forget all differences that take us back> What the star academy achieved in bringing together the components of the Great Maghreb, which wasn't achieved through politics. Still and even if I like the program and all the students whether they are from Libya, Tunisia, Algeria or Morocco, all without exception, and if I have some preference for Ahmed, Farid, Hamid, Hajar or Jamal previously, I ask the staff responsible for the program to take some measures that are absent, 1) Urge the students to pray because we're Muslims, why don't they dedicate some time for praying? as there's a time for eating, dancing and singing, and to this day I never felt that I'm watching a program broadcast by a Muslim channel, what makes things worse is that Mrs Khadija is unable to say the complete Islamic greetings she just says Salam which is a Jewish greeting!!! 2) In addition to Music, dance, and sport why do they not offer other courses, cultural scientific and linguistic in Arabic, French and English? One can't be a star just by dancing and singing but also with the strength of his knowledge and personality. 3) Be impartial and avoid pure materialism from the supervisors of the program, avoid favouritism which we notice from time to time not from the students!! 4) The brothers who follow the program please, avoid the limited regionalism such as Amazigh, Arab or other, we want the program to bury such ideas and not be a factor to enhance them. 5) I hope from my heart that the program will not make us forget the threats we live such as the alienation of the Islamic culture, restricting our thoughts to a narrow sphere limited to enjoying watching the daily life of some of us, because this reminds us of something said by a Jewish minister when he watched the star academy broadcast in Lebanon, he said the thinking of Arabs has become very superficial so they now accept better what happens to them. 6) We blame Nessma channel for presenting many Western songs, I ask them to present Maghreb Arab songs. 7) A word to ths students, please be more decent in your behaviours and attitudes namely between girls and boys, you should know that there are families watching you so please don't hurt their shyness and don't be a cause to distort our images in front of our children. Finally, the rationality of the program make us more distinct and opens us many doors to success, so we wish success to all participants Ahmed...Farid...Badrou... Hamid...Firas...Hajar...Soraya... Farah... Yosra. With the greetings of Nacer
كوتر Posted 2007-05-22

لطفى السوسى Posted 2007-05-22
Khairi with all my respects to you and your family members, you're not an artist and will never be an artist as you have failed in the first experience. You won't be an artist, art is hard, I liked you and voted for you, but after what happened you saddened me, and I defy anyone who voted for you more than I did, the oceans of art are very deep, and in order to reach you have to sacrifice, and the artist learns every day something new, shame on you, you gave a bad idea of Libya, maybe art for you was just a game, no, no, no, art is a mission which you have to complete in the best way.

The program is very nice and I wish you from the bottom of my heart more success
مريم المغربية Posted 2007-05-23
Salam alaikoum, I was very happy for the success of Khairi and Farah during the prime soirée, but Khairi disappointed me as I wished that he would continue to the end. Maybe he could have been the star! Unfortunately he left the Dar and I don't know why, all I know is that Khairi was the fruit of the academy and without him the Dar and the whole program is tasteless. I love you Khairi, and you're the only one who knows the cause of your departure, God knows, I don't believe what you said... but I'm sure that there's a discrimination in the Academy which made you leave with your head up, may God preserve you as a symbol of manhood, by God for me you're the star of the world, not only the Arab Maghreb, Mariem the Moroccan
