Algerian football championship final standings remain in suspense
2006-04-20
With just few days to go before the end of the 2005-2006 season, the first-division Algerian football championship still remains wide open. JS Kabylie, which had a ten-point lead over their closest rivals early in the season, were caught by USM Alger, who are now only two points behind them.
By Nazim Fethi for Magharebia in Algiers – 20/04/06
![]() [File] Zaoui (right) and his ASO Chlef team-mates surprised JS Kabylie in their own stadium. |
With just few days left to the season, the Algerian first-division football championship is still a nail-biter. JS Kabylie's 1-0 home defeat on 13 April to ASO Chlef was the second it suffered in a week after it lost to CR Belouizdad 2-1. The two slips by the leader have helped its closest rival, USM Alger, which is now within two points of the lead with a more favourable remaining schedule.
USM Alger, Algerian champions for the last two seasons, has made no secret of its intention to defend its title to the bitter end. Speculation is rife and the suspense looks set to remain until the very end of the season.
Teams threatened with relegation are in a similar state of uncertainty
The top of the standings is not the only place that a battle is taking place, however. Teams threatened with relegation are in a similar state of uncertainty. Apart from US Biskra, which has lost all hope of staying in the first division, at least six other teams are in danger.
The remaining days of the championship season should see tight skirmishes between these teams, who know that three among them will be relegated to the second division at the end of the season.
Another battle exists to qualify for the African and Arab Champions League, with places will go to the teams finishing from second to fifth, eight teams are still fighting it out for the four places.
The current season is the first time in a decade that the Algerian football championship has seen such tension. Over the last few years, the title has been won well before the end of the championship, usually by a large margin.

Football has finished like everything else has finished in this country. Everything has become corrupt, the conscience is absent as well as men. Where are the years of the 80's?
عبدو Posted 2007-11-13
Entente of Setif is a golden team- it has fascinated all Arabs and silcened Algerians of fire. Inchallah next year they will bring us joy. Congratulations for your victory against Soustara. May God protect Ziyaya, the son of my country. Abdou Minkalma.
عبدو Posted 2007-11-19

حسين Posted 2008-05-19
Algerian sports have become really sick and the cause is clear because its people were excluded and they were substituted by swindler club presidents who have nothing to do with sports. They are silent with the approval of officials in the country. Now we have become a joke for everyone.
ر ظا Posted 2008-05-22
Long live Jeunesse Belouazda and Yacine from Belouazdad.
دلاوي م Posted 2008-05-28
Algerian sport, on top of it football which is the soul of young people now needs high spirits or maybe it badly needs to stay away from violence, and this is what we see on the pitches. It is now prone to arrogance and violence. We state for example what happened in Oran. Thank you. I hope that this sport will be uniting the sons of this nation and not separating them or sowing hatred and regionalism. Every team in this nation is a supporter whether it loses or wins.
hassan Posted 2008-06-01
Hi. Long live CRB. With the will of God we will win the Algerian Cup next year. Long live CRB.

There is nothing in Algeria except USMH and JSK. El Harrach don't like Setif.
DJAMEL17 Posted 2008-09-12
Long live Ahli El Borj, yellow locusts. Wherever we go, we create chaos. If we win, we are happy. If we lose, we are patient. But we are still the yellow ghost for ES Setif.
عزالدين Posted 2008-09-16
Dealers have destroyed Espérance Galma (ESG). They have buried its history and filled their pockets with the funds of the team. (Their faces are healthy, what can we with them?) True supporters of the team should take action to remove these rascals and obliterate them once and for all from the sport map. As it is said, if you are shameless, do whatever you want.
amazigh Posted 2008-09-18
If we had stadiums like Saudi Arabia or the Arab Emirates, we would be the best in the world and not just in Africa. We need only stadiums or, more importantly, the means. If only we had all of this.
abderahman Posted 2008-10-07
