Algerian football crisis averted

The crisis in Algerian football -- which has threatened the Algerian Football Federation's suspension from international competitions -- has been alleviated. FIFA has accepted the postponement of the federation's general election assembly until 23 January.

The Federation of International Football Federations (FIFA) has accepted the postponement of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) general election assembly until 23 January, the FAF announced Wednesday (14 December). The world football-governing body had no problems with the delay as long as the assembly is held according to present FAF regulations.

On 11 December, Minister for Youth and Sport Yahia Guiddoum declared that the general election assembly of FAF would be delayed by one month following a meeting with FAF President Mohamed Raouraoua. The minister stated "this decision was taken in the best interests of Algerian football".

The assembly will be compelled to bring FAF laws in line with the arrangements of the new decree, Guiddoum added. Raouraoua underlined that the list of candidates for the FAF presidency would be re-opened as a result and reminded those present that he was not a candidate for another term.

This turnaround came following FIFA's decision to suspend Algeria from all international competitions starting 23 December, if it did not hold its election assembly before then, as stipulated by current FAF laws.

Guiddoum ended up by giving the go-ahead for the general election assembly to be held a month later under the current rules, which would allow candidates wishing to stand for election to file their candidature.

rejected any interference by governments in the running of football federations

FIFA has always been very intransigent where the application of affiliated federation laws is concerned. The federation, led by Sepp Blatter, has consistently rejected any interference by governments in the running of football federations, the same principle applied by the International Olympic Committee.

The crisis pitting the Algerian Ministry for Youth and Sport against the FAF arose from the former's desire to introduce new measures for sporting federations. The ministry's intention was to increase the number of its designated members in federation management from ten to 30 and to limit tenure of the presidency to one term only. Both arrangements were rejected by FIFA, which raised the threat of sanctions.

We have to sack Cavally and bring back Rabih Saadane.

moh_chinoui Posted 2007-06-30

All problems endured by our national team are caused by the Footbal federation as they're not related to sport or football, that's why we ask them to remove the lamentable engineer who came to make a name in Algeria, finally inchallah Algeria will be qualified.

عميروا سيني Posted 2007-07-04

Everyone has come to hate you

mohamed Posted 2007-08-02

We have to bring a high level coach. I say that the coach of M Oran is better than Cavally. We should also build schools that produce expert players and not call the sons of immigrants from European schools.

الغيور على بلده Posted 2007-09-09

You traitors, you’re playing with the feelings of our Algerian people. This is a new scandal shaking the Algerian entity. We want to recover our glory. We want lions, enough; we want the Algerian football to shine. We want an Algerian coach, we want an Algerian player from the Sahara, from the West, from the Centre, East. No more discrimination, no more regionalism. This is a hard defeat. We want Madjer, we want Saadane, everyone is laughing at us, the Moroccan and the Egyptian. I’m sick for the Algerian flag. Cavally sells onions in his country and trains the Algerian national team. This is a shame. We don’t want a French coach, we want players from the Sahara from all parts of Algeria.

الغيور Posted 2007-09-09

Long live Algeria, we want a proud Algeria, we want players protective of their country, we want Madjer a coach, the son of the country, don't we love him?

عمق الجزائر Posted 2007-09-11

In the name of God and peace and prayer upon the prophet. Isn’t it strange that 4 players, even if they are professionals, insist on keeping Jean Michel Cavally. What’s strange is that they didn’t get in touch with the coach but with the president of the federation and threatened to leave if Cavally were to leave. Isn’t this strange? Firstly I think that that this is a plot fabricated by the president of the federation. Secondly, no good came from the fathers of these professional players and not the professionals after their fathers have betrayed the revolution, and then we expect good to come from them, of course no. Thirdly, I prefer the departure of these mercenaries, Algeria is full of men, as it gave birth to Madjer, it can give birth to a hundred Madjers inchallah, the best evidence is the African Cup 2004 and the champions who nearly realized the dream then, they’re different from these mercenaries, they were young boys at the time. I swear by God if you go down to any popular street, we’ll find a national team capable of playing to the highest levels. Finally I advise the Algerian people to boycott the matches of the national team if Cavally and the four mercenaries do not leave and the dismissal of the federation. Salam Alaikoum.

Algerian football is zero.

زايد Posted 2007-09-20

Salam alaikoum, the Algerian national team only needs professional players like Ziani and Belhaj; and not Haj Issa, Maiza, Moumen and Hassni. As to the coach, Madjer is the most suitable.

حنان Posted 2007-09-23

Salam alaikoum, I agree with the brother who said that the coach El Hamraoui of the previous year is better. We hope that you take this into consideration and rely on local players in the national team as they're better than the professionals and calling these professionals made the local players grumble, local players are the best ambassadors for our country. Thank you.

عبد العزيز Posted 2007-12-26

Algerian football is going to the dump. We want men like Madjer and Assad, who brought victory to Algerian football in their time. With wishes of success to the greens in the qualifications of World Cup 2010.

amroune7 Posted 2008-01-28

The coach Madjer is the most suitable, long live Algeria. Algeria isn't lacking men.

مواطن من الدرجه الاولي Posted 2008-01-29

The cause of Algerian football's deterioration and fallback is the policy and management of the team, bringing players without consideration of who is best… I can almost swear that if they chose a team from the sons of the Sahara and south, they would have brought us not just the African Cup but also the World Cup…Believe me, those who are playing on our pitches for our nation are material humans who lack a feeling of nationalism and jealousy for the country... In the end, I want to say to those who betrayed their country and sold their land to review their accounts before it’s too late… And God is right in saying “And the oppressors will know their destination”. God say the truth.

ترجي قالمة=كحلة نار= Posted 2008-02-05

In the name of God. Football in Algeria and Algeria is disgusting. You are doing no good and everything is caused by the president of the federation. Football officials should be associated with football. We don’t want a farmer to manage sport, a mason to manage medicine….Madjer and Rabeh Saadane are the solution to the Algerian football. Salam Alaikoum.

رؤوف usma Posted 2008-02-07

Algerian football is sick and well below the continental and international level. We have to make the president of the federation and his followers pay for their false promises. (The African cup 2006-2008, these are the results). No professionals, no amateurs, no training centres and no stadiums. Hafid Daraji is the virus of the administration. A country without citizens and a national team without players.

سيفاقس كرازدي باتنة Posted 2008-02-23

I suggest the best line-up for the national team 1 Chaouch, 2 Bouguerra, 3 Zerabi, 4 Antar Yahya, 5 Hamdani, 6 Ziyani, 7 Saifi, 8 Chadli Omari, 9 Ghilas, 10 Haj Issa, 11 Jebbour.

MANSOUR Posted 2008-04-04

Long live Mouloudia d'Oran, Hamraoui.

من الرمال الذهبية (الصحراء Posted 2008-06-02

I hope that you will get rid of regionalism in the national team. The sons of the Sahara should be involved in the national team to improve its performance. The problem isn’t with coaches but rather in the management. The wise will understand.

شوقي Posted 2008-06-07

Very nice.

joueur Posted 2008-07-04

The Federation should dismiss all foreign players and build up a team of players under the age of 25 because all the current players are unsuccessful. We ask the senior officials not to interfere with sporting issues. I think that you have understood. I suggest coaches for the national team.
