Interpol drops arrest warrant for Algerian football great Belloumi

2009-04-22

Interpol officially lifted the international arrest warrant issued in 1990 against Algerian football legend Lakhdar Belloumi, APS reported on Tuesday (April 21st). The warrant stems from an incident that occurred two decades ago, when Egyptian physician Ahmed Abdelmouneim Ahmed Abdelhadi blamed Belloumi for an eye injury he suffered during a brawl in a Cairo hotel lounge. Belloumi, who played in two FIFA World Cups and was once named African Footballer of the Year, retired in 1999.
