Former Tunisian Davis Cup player Essam Jalali won the men's singles final at the third Al Wasl Open tennis tournament, which concluded in Dubai Sunday (21 May). The 23-year old defeated second seed Mikkel Schultz of Denmark in straight sets with solid play from the baseline.
"I think the key was me not allowing him to settle down," Jalali said. "I owe a lot of my success to my coach Fadi Abu Rahal," he added. The women's title went to Tanya Volkova from Moldova, who outplayed UAE-based Jennifer Smith in straight sets. (Khaleej Times, Gulfnews)
