Stalled Mauritania mediation talks are set to resume Wednesday (June 24th) in Noauakchott, under the leadership of Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, ANI reported. A meeting between Mauritania's three rival political poles ended Tuesday in Dakar without achieving a break in the stalemate over next month's presidential elections. Blocking implementation of the June 4th agreement is deposed president Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdellahi's demand that the junta's ruling council (HCE) be disbanded. Abdellahi signed the accord without addressing the issue.
The new round of talks will include AU Commission chief Jean Ping and representatives of AU president Moamer Kadhafi, the Arab League, the UN, EU and other world bodies.
